Project Terra Form
3D printing and ceramics
Project Introduction
What are we doing?
In this project, you will design your own landscape out of clay and house with a 3-D printer. It is important that you be considerate of your environment and build your house accordingly. Think about the different regions of the world and the different architectures that are utilized. For example, in the more arid climates in the Americas, adobe-style houses were utilized. They used material that was native to the land (such as mud, clay, and wood). The mud and clay had unique temperature-gaging properties and allowed the inside to stay relatively cool compared to the outside. Today, you will choose an environment/region that interests you. You will then begin doing some research based on that region (I.e finding out what types of houses are built there, what kind of plants grow there, and what the terrain should look like. You will get a 6-inch by 6-inch plot of land made from clay that you may form to your desire. You will also have a could of days to experiment and build a house using an online program (we will be 3-D printing your design. Once you have printed your house and fired your clay, you may begin painting.
